Ramon Hernandez Injury: Rockies C To Have Surgery Monday

Rockies catcher Ramon Hernandez is scheduled for surgery Monday on his ruptured left hamstring, according to Troy Renck. Hernandez was injured running to first base Monday night. He will miss the remainder of the season.

An initial MRI on Tuesday was inconclusive, but a follow up MRI on Wednesday confirmed the injury. This brings a difficult season to an end for Hernandez, who has struggled throughout the year. The 36-year-old Hernandez has appeared in only 52 games due to tendinitis, and has hit just .217/.247/.353 on the season.

23-year-old rookie Wilin Rosario will replace Hernandez as the Rockies' primary catcher. Rosario is hitting .255/.298/.521 with 24 home runs and 62 RBI this season.

The Rockies are solidly in last place in the NL West. The Rockies play the San Diego Padres Friday night in the first game of a three game series in San Diego.
