Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki is not yet ready to play and likely won't be activated for this weekend's series against the San Diego Padres, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Renck says he believes that Tulowitzki will play again this season, but it will likely only be for a few games.
Tulowitzki has not played since May 30 after having surgery to remove scar tissue from his groin. The polarizing star shortstop also missed significant time in 2008 due to injury and his absence has not helped in an extraordinarily disappointing year for the Rockies in 2012.
Before the injury, Tulowitzki was hitting .287 with a 1.098 OPS, with eight home runs and 27 RBIs. He's been close to returning to the field the past few weeks after a lengthy rehab that took him away from the clubhouse and the team. Tulowitzki stated back in August that he's been anxious to get back to work with his teammates:
"I want to get out on the field and play with some of the new guys, like (Josh) Rutledge," Tulowitzki said. "And you want to help the guys and show them there's a certain way to do things around here. Some things need to change if we are going to start winning again."
The Rockies take on the Padres Friday, with first pitch set for 8:05 p.m. MT.
