Matt McBride, Edgmer Escalona Called Up By Rockies

The Colorado Rockies will have a couple of new bodies with the team on Saturday night when they look to take one from the San Francisco Giants. While the corresponding transactions are not yet known, outfielder Matt McBride and pitcher Edgmer Escalona will be the two players called up, according to LehighValleyLive.com.

McBride, we'll recall, was one of the other players the Cleveland Indians sent the Rockies in the Ubaldo Jimenez trade last July. Playing for Triple-A Colorado Springs, McBride was a Pacific Coast League All-Star and is currently hitting .354/.380/.561 with 10 home runs and 77 RBI. He can also play first base and catcher.

Escalona spent the end of April and a few days in May with the Rockies, going 0-1 with an 8.53 ERA in seven appearances. At Triple-A Colorado Springs, he is 3-2 with 3.05 ERA and 38 strikeouts in 38.1 innings.

McBride and Escalona are likely coming up for Christian Friedrich, who is out for the season with a back injury, and possibly outfielder Michael Cuddyer, currently dealing with an oblique injury.
