The cascade of injuries to the pitching staff must feel like a never-ending tidal wave for the Colorado Rockies in 2012. The latest bad news concerns rookie pitcher Christian Friedrich, who was shut down for the remainder of the season on Friday after an MRI revealed a stress fracture in his lower back. The team's first-round pick from the 2008 MLB Draft compiled a 6.17 ERA and a 5-8 record over 84.2 innings, but his recent bullpen session sparked concern about his health and ultimately led to the detection of the stress fracture, as reported by Thomas Harding of MLB.com:

Friedrich (back) and Juan Nicasio (knee) are both out for the season, while Jhoulys Chacin (chest) and Jorge De La Rosa (Tommy John) haven't been able to find their way back onto the mound either. It has certainly been a nightmare season for Rockies pitchers.
