Colorado Rockies outfielder Eric Young Jr. will not be headed to the disabled list after last night's injury, according to Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Young strained his left intercostal muscle -- located in his left rib cage -- in the first inning of last night's 3-2 win over the Miami Marlins. It is yet to be determined how long Young will be out.
After beginning the game in left field, Young apparently sustained the injury on a checked-swing strikeout in the bottom of the first. He did not return to the field in the second inning. Andrew Brown, who was just called up yesterday, took Young's place in left field. Brown went 1-3 on the night and is expected to get the start tonight.
Young had upped his season batting average to .318 before leaving last night's contest, hitting two home runs and driving in five RBI in the last seven days.
