Rockies Recall Guillermo Moscoso, Designate Mike Ekstrom For Assignment

The Colorado Rockies have recalled RHP Guillermo Moscoso to start Wednesday's game against the Milwaukee Brewers, according to the club's official Twitter account.

Moscoso, 28, has already compiled an 8.23 ERA this season in ten appearances across 27.1 innings this season. He's drawing the start in place of Drew Pomeranz, who was ruled out earlier in the week with soreness in his left pectoral and biceps. Moscoso might have his hands full though with the Rockies going for the series sweep as he's never faced a single batter in the Brewers lineup.

Mike Ekstrom is being designated for assignment to make room for Moscoso. Ekstrom, 28, has allowed 11 runs in just 15.2 relief innings this season, striking out nine batters and walking two. These numbers are disappointing considering the right-hander had a solid 2.64 ERA and 9.6 K/9 in 47.2 innings at Triple-A this year.

Pomeranz is expected to be good to go for Sunday's game against the Marlins so look for Moscoso to go right back to where he come from not soon after completing today's start.
