The Colorado Rockies struck early and often on Monday night against the Milwaukee Brewers and survived a late scare to pull off the 9-6 victory upon the team's return to Coors Field.
With the exception of Tyler Colvin's RBI double, the Rockies' run-scoring plays came on singles, groundouts and a sacrifice fly. DJ LeMahieu led the offense with a 4-for-4, two-RBI night while Carlos Gonzalez drove in two on a single and a groundout. The first eight runs scored over the first three innings, all charged to starter Mike Fiers (6-5, 2.63 ERA). LeMahieu added his second RBI in the seventh inning.
Jeff Francis (4-4, 5.99 ERA) allowed three runs in 5.1 innings, two runs scored on a Carlos Gomez home run in the sixth inning. Rickie Weeks hit a three-run home run off Will Harris in the top of the ninth.
The Rockies (42-71, 22-37 home) continue this series on Tuesday with a pitching matchup featuring Tyler Chatwood and Randy Wolf.
