Rockies Prospect OF David Dahl Lands On Baseball America Hot Sheet

The Colorado Rockies prospect and top draft pick in the 2012 June draft, OF David Dahl, is hot. Like, crazy hot.

After just 45 games in the rookie-level Pioneer League, Dahl has mashed five home runs and stole eight bases. The 18-year-old now sports a .380/.424/.615 slash and has earned a No. 11 ranking in Baseball America's Prospect Hot Sheet. And doing what he's doing in the Pioneer league -- at his age -- is something special:

Usually, the league's top slugger hails from the college ranks—think Paul Goldschmidt in 2009, Brandon Decker in 2010 or O'Koyea Dickson last year. Dahl, the 10th overall pick in June, is changing that perception one extra-base hit at a time.

The average age for hitters in the Pioneer League is 20.8, with pitchers checking in at 21.5. Being better at a league older than yourself is not a surefire indicator of success, but hitting well is hitting well, and Dahl is hitting great.
