2012 MLB Draft: Kevin Gausman, Orioles Making 'Significant Progress' On Deal

The Baltimore Orioles and first round pick Kevin Gausman have been making "significant progress" on a contract, which now seems likely according to Jon Heyman of CBS Sports. It had previously been reported that Gausman was seriously considering a return to LSU for his junior season.

As a draft-eligible sophomore, Gausman was selected by Baltimore with a fourth overall pick in the draft. The first pitcher selected after a trio of position players, the Colorado native would be easily the highest selection in the draft to fail to sign a pro contract.

At the moment, Stanford pitcher Mark Appel (Pirates) and Oklahoma State pitcher Andrew Heaney (Marlins) are the only other top-10 picks that haven't agreed to deals yet.
