Rockies Draft Picks 2012: Colorado Takes 17 Right-Handed Pitchers In 42 Picks

The 2012 MLB Draft is over, and the Colorado Rockies came away with 42 players in the process. The Rockies are most excited about No. 10 overall pick, outfielder David Dahl. Colorado typically doesn't take high school players in the early first round, but when the fifth-best position player according to Baseball America was still on the board, the team jumped at the chance. The first pitcher selected by the Rockies was Eddie Butler at No. 46 overall. His fastball reaches the mid-90s, but he usually sits in the lower end of the 90s. He throws a slider and a changeup as well, and the team will put him on track to become a starter.

In terms of a positional breakdown, the Rockies selected 19 pitchers and 23 position players. Interestingly, 17 of those pitchers are right-handed and only two throw lefty. As for the position players, they selected five catchers, 13 infielders and five outfielders.

Here is the complete list of 2012 MLB Draft picks for the Colorado Rockies, via the press release from the team website.
