Rockies Vs. Diamondbacks: Josh Outman Takes Mound As Rockies Aim For Series Win

The Colorado Rockies continue their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks, hoping to rebound from Tuesday night's 10-0 blowout. Starter Jeremy Guthrie continued his miserable season with his worst start of the year, and the Rockies are searching for a quality appearance from their rotation.

Josh Outman (0-1. 5.63 ERA) will take the mound for just his second start with Colorado. When the Rockies acquired Outman (along with Guillermo Moscoso) from the Oakland Athletics this past offseason, they originally slotted him as a late inning bullpen arm. But with injuries sidelining much of the starting pitching depth, the Rockies have decided to stretch Outman back into a starter. Outman made his first start in a Rockies uniform on June 1 against the Los Angeles Dodgers and was very good, throwing 3.1 shutout innings and striking out five Dodger batters. While he will still be on a pitch count in this start against the Diamondbacks, expect Outman to throw around 70 pitches.

Rookie Wade Miley (6-2, 2.72 ERA) will get the start for Arizona. The 2008 1st round supplemental pick has been the Diamondbacks' best starting pitcher this season, though he allowed four earned runs against the Padres in his last start, albeit in 7.1 innings.

Colorado and Arizona split the first two games of the series. The Rockies are looking for their third straight series win.
