2012 MLB Draft: Rockies Select RHP Zach Jemiola In Round 9

The Colorado Rockies added another high school pitcher on Tuesday afternoon, selecting Great Oak (CA) High School right-handed pitcher Zach Jemiola with the 288th overall pick (Round 4) of the 2012 MLB Draft. The last high school pitcher the Rockies took was back at pick No. 128, a Compensation B choice used on local product RHP Ryan Warner.

Jemiola is 6 feet 3 and 200 pounds and has thrown in the mid-90s this year. However, a shoulder injury sapped some of that velocity off of his fastball. He now sits in the low-90s and throws a slider. However, his changeup will likely need work, according to Baseball America.

He is committed to UC Irvine, but the Rockies might be able to sway him away from spending his next three years there. The signing deadline is July 13.
