2012 MLB Draft Results: Rockies Dip Into Colorado For RHP Ryan Warner

The Colorado Rockies used their Compensation B round selection to draft local RHP Ryan Warner. Warner hails from Pine Creek High School in Colorado Springs, CO. At 6 feet 7 and 185 pounds, Warner has a pitcher's body to fill out, but one that scouts certainly see as projectable.

His fastball sits in the upper-80s but can reach 91 mph. He also throws a spike curveball, according to Baseball America. However, his changeup still needs to be worked on. He is a North Carolina State commit, but the Rockies must certainly believe they can lure him away from there with this high selection.

Warner is considered the top talent in the state of Colorado this season, but Kevin Gausman was the highest selected player with ties to Colorado. He went No. 4 overall to the Baltimore Orioles. The Rockies nearly drafted Gausman in the first round back in 2010.
