2012 MLB Draft Results: Buffalo C Tom Murphy Goes To Rockies In 3rd Round

The Colorado Rockies used the No. 105 overall pick in the 2012 MLB Draft to draft Buffalo Bulls catcher Tom Murphy on Tuesday. He is the second college player the team has drafted so far, previously taking two high school center fielders (David Dahl, Max White) and one pitcher from Radford (Eddie Butler).

Murphy, 6 feet 1 and 220 pounds, seems to be a solid defensive catcher with pop in his bat, but he likely won't hit for average. He hit .311 with 10 home runs this spring and was able to walk 32 times to 46 strikeouts.

The Rockies' next pick comes in the Compensation B Round at No. 128 overall. The team failed to sign 2011 third-round draft pick Peter O'Brien and received this choice as a result.
