The Colorado Rockies are expected to go the prep route when they make the No. 10 overall selection on Monday night in the 2012 MLB Draft, but while many prognosticators see the team taking an outfielder, ESPN Insider Keith Law is projecting lefty Max Fried:
Max Fried, LHP, Harvard-Westlake H.S. (Studio City, Calif.)
They're interested in Almora, Correa, Hawkins, Fried, David Dahl and Gavin Cecchini, and remain a dark horse on Giolito.
All of the players listed above are high school products, but Giolito would be quite the pick if it happened. Giolito was in the mix to go No. 1 overall before an elbow injury shut him down for several weeks this spring. Because of that injury and his signability, Giolito's draft position is quite fluid leading up to the draft.
The 6-foot-6, 240-pound righty has been clocked in at 100 mph and represents one of the truly high-upside players in the draft.
