2012 MLB Draft Results: Rockies Nab Eddie Butler With No. 46 Overall Pick

The Colorado Rockies had a second selection in the 2012 MLB Draft on Day 1 and used its Compensation A pick (No. 46 overall) to draft RHP Eddie Butler of Radford. The Rockies received this pick as a result of seeing Mark Ellis sign with the Los Angeles Dodgers as a free agent this past offseason.

Radford is 6 feet 2 and 165 pounds. His fastball reaches the mid-90s, but he usually sits in the lower end of the 90s. He throws a slider and a changeup, but the latter pitch needs work if he hopes to stay a starter.

In 2011, the Rockies used its Compensation A pick on shortstop Trevor Story, who is hitting .300/.391/.589 with 15 doubles, five triples, 10 home runs and 34 RBI.

The Rockies will resume drafting with the rest of the league on Tuesday afternoon when Round 2-15 will take place. Colorado has an extra pick in the Compensation B Round, which comes after Round 3, as a result of not signing 2011 third-round pick Peter O'Brien.
