The Colorado Rockies (23-30) are in Phoenix on Monday to face the Arizona Diamondbacks (25-29), their first trip to the desert this season. The Rockies enter this series with two straight series victories, a rare happening this season.
Christian Friedrich (3-1, 5.59 ERA) is back on the mound for his sixth start this season, the fourth road one. He is on a two-game winning streak, but his last outing was saved by the offense in a 13-5 victory. He allowed all five runs on 11 hits and one walk. He struck out five. With the exception of his May 19 outing, Friedrich has struck out at least six batters in each of his starts.
The Diamondbacks arrive back in Phoenix with a two-game winning streak in hand, taking two of three against the San Diego Padres. Joe Saunders (3-3, 3.61 ERA) is coming off one of his better starts, allowing just one run in 5.1 innings to the San Francisco Giants. However, he took a no-decision and saw the Giants score two runs in the eighth, ending the game in favor of San Francisco, 3-1. He is 5-1 with a 3.32 ERA in seven career starts against the Rockies.
