Padres Vs. Rockies: Colorado Can Extend Winning Streak To 3 Games On Saturday

The Colorado Rockies opened this weekend series against the San Diego Padres with a 10-2 thrashing on Friday night. That win gave the Rockies consecutive victories -- having defeated the Washington Nationals on Thursday -- for the first time since June 3-4. Should the Rockies win on Saturday, the team will have its longest winning streak since winning five in a row from May 28-June 1.

The Rockies send Christian Friedrich (4-5, 5.86 ERA) to the mound for this Saturday evening game. He is on a four-game losing streak ever since improving to 4-1 on June 4. In his last start, Friedrich went 4.1 innings (70 pitches) and allowed four runs on nine hits to the Washington Nationals. Friedrich's first career start came against the Padres (on the road). He struck out seven and allowed two runs in six innings.

Edinson Volquez (4-7, 3.82 ERA) is coming off one of his best starts of the season, having defeated the Seattle Mariners in 2-0 decision. He threw 6.2 shutout innings while striking out four and walking three. Volquez picked up his first win of the season back on May 7 when he allowed two runs in 5.2 innings to the Rockies in a 3-2 contest.

This game will start at 5:15 p.m. MT and can be seen on FOX. Tune into 850 KOA if you'd rather that broadcast.
