Wilfredo Rodriguez Contract: Rockies Sign Puerto Rican Catcher

The Colorado Rockies announced on Wednesday that they have signed catcher Wilfredo Rodriguez, who was their seventh round pick in the 2012 MLB Draft. Rodriguez, who comes from the Puerto Rico Baseball Academy (which produced top overall pick Carlos Correa), inked for $200,000, which is roughly $50,000 over the value assigned by MLB.

Baseball America rated Rodriguez as the 7th-best player in the draft from Puerto Rico, and the 15th-best overall catcher. He was committed to Seminole State College, but the Rockies were able to buy him away from school.
