Rockies Vs. Padres: Christian Friedrich Makes MLB Debut On Wednesday

The Colorado Rockies continue to run into trouble entering Wednesday's series final against the San Diego Padres. They have lost the last two games to the Padres and five-straight when including the Atlanta Braves. Mostly it's been poor pitching, but so far the Rockies have scored just three runs against San Diego.

The Rockies turn to Christian Friedrich (MLB debut) to close out this series. The team optioned reliever Adam Ottavino back to the Triple-A Colorado Sky Sox in order to make this move. Friedrich was the team's 2008 first-round draft choice and dealt with arms issues over the last couple of years, slowing down his debut. He's since enjoyed a solid debut with the Colorado Sky Sox by going 2-1 with a 3.00 ERA and a 0.900 WHIP in five starts.

Anthony Bass (1-3, 3.51 ERA) gave up six runs in his last start, an eventual 9-8 loss to the Miami Marlins. He started against the Rockies at Coors Field in the middle of April, picking up the loss after allowing three runs in a 5-3 decision. Bass has done well striking out batters this season, K'ing at least seven in each of his last four starts.
