The Colorado Rockies appear to have hit rock bottom this weekend against the Seattle Mariners, losing 4-0 in a two-hitter on Friday and then 10-3 on Saturday. Sunday offers new hope, just as every new day in baseball does.
The Rockies will have Jeremy Guthrie (2-1, 4.85 ERA) make his second start since coming off the disabled list. Though he took a no-decision in the contest, the Rockies wound up winning, 5-4, on May 15. He allowed one (unearned) run in 5.1 innings while walking four and striking out four.
Opposing Guthrie will be Blake Beavan (1-4, 4.58 ERA). He has thrown just seven innings over his last two starts, largely a result of an elbow injury. On May 7, he pitched just three innings because a comebacker hit him in his right elbow. Then pitching on seven days' rest, he made it through four innings after allowing three runs. This will be his first start at Coors Field.
Game time: 1:10 p.m. MT, Sunday, May 20, 2012
Location: Coors Field, Denver, Colo.
