Scott Hairston has joined an exclusive club with the New York Mets while playing in Friday's game against the Colorao Rockies: He hit for the cycle. He is the 10th Mets player to pick up all four types of hits since Jose Reyes did it on June 21, 2006.
Hairston started things off with a single in the second inning, a home run in the fourth and a triple in the fifth inning. He then doubled in the top of the sixth inning to complete the cycle.
However, Hairston's cycle might be lost in the greater story of this game: the Rockies scored 11 runs in the bottom of the fifth inning after going down, 6-2, in the top half of that inning. Hairston's double did score two runs to bring the game to a 13-8 deficit. The Rockies currently lead, 13-9.
