Rockies Demote Zach Putnam After Double-Header

The Colorado Rockies have optioned relief pitcher Zach Putnam to Triple-A Colorado Springs, as the team announced. Putnam never appeared in a Rockies uniform during his short stint with the big league club this week after the club promoted him for the double-header against Pittsburgh.

The Rockies called up Putnam for their double-header against the Pirates thanks to a new rule in the CBA that allows clubs to carry a 26th man when traditional double-headers are scheduled. The 24-year-old has been in Triple-A for the entire season otherwise, posting a 1.23 ERA with 11 strikeouts and just three walks over five appearances.
