Pittsburgh Pirates starter James McDonald will need to wait for another day to throw a no-hitter. He allowed an infield single to Colorado Rockies shortstop Troy Tulowitzki in the seventh inning. It was an infield single with no out and Carlos Gonzalez on base after a walk. A wild pitch then moved Gonzalez and Tulowitzki to third and second base, respectively. Jason Giambi hit a sacrifice fly to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.
McDonald has struck out eight in seven innings. His counterpart on the Rockies, Juan Nicasio, has given up seven hits in six innings while striking out five.
Will the game continue to favor the Rockies this afternoon? Fifteen outs (or less if the Pirates take the lead) remain to be recorded.
