LSU Tigers pitcher Kevin Gausman improved to 6-1 on Friday night with the team's 10-2 victory over the Alabama Crimson Tide. Gausman, a Colorado native, went eight innings, allowed two runs on six hits and two walks and struck out seven.
Gausman received his run support early on with a Mason Katz three-run homer in the first inning. In the fourth inning, 2008 Colorado Rockies draftee Austin Nola launched a ball to left center field for a grand slam, capping a six-run inning for the Tigers.
This was a nice rebound from his loss the previous week against the Florida Gators. Gausman allowed six of seven runs in 6.1 innings while walking four and striking out eight.
For the season, Gausman has a 2.76 ERA over 62 innings, allowing 50 hits and 19 walks. He has struck out 77 batters and held the opposition to a .216 batting average.
