Peter O'Brien, Former Rockies Draft Pick, Ruled Eligible For Miami Hurricanes

The Colorado Rockies drafted catcher Peter O'Brien out of Bethune-Cookman in the third round of the 2011 MLB Draft. He didn't sign, and a couple of weeks after the Aug. 15 signing deadline O'Brien moved transferred to the Miami Hurricanes. It took until the middle of January for it to happen, but O'Brien was finally cleared to play for Hurricanes this season.

He hit 14 home runs for Bethune-Cookman last season, which helped move him up draft boards. However, his long-term future as a catcher is still in dispute. He likely will move off the position as a pro unless he shows improvement this season.

O'Brien is ranked by Baseball America as the No. 44 college prospect heading into the 2012 season.
