Rockies Vs. Padres: Colorado Shuts Out San Diego In 3-0 Victory

The Colorado Rockies started this portion of the road trip with a 3-0 shutout of the San Diego Padres on Friday night. The Rockies overcame some early hitting woe and received a strong start from Kevin Millwood.

Aaron Harang (12-5, 3.86 ERA) kept the Rockies hitless for the first three innings, but he did allow two base runners in the first inning. Dexter Fowler had a small problem on the base paths, which turned a Carlos Gonzalez hit into a fielder's choice and a Fowler out at second base.

But Fowler made up for things in the fourth inning with a leadoff triple. He scored on Jonathan Herrera's single in the next at-bat. Herrera moved over to second on the throw that play and wound up in third after a passed ball. Troy Tulowitzki plated him with a ground out. Tulowitzki scored Herrera again on a single in the sixth inning.

Kevin Millwood (2-1, 3.34 ERA) scattered seven hits, but held the Padres scoreless for seven innings and struck out eight of them. Rex Brothers and Rafael Betancourt (SV 5) finished the game.

The Rockies (65-73, 30-40 away) have Alex White on the mound for Saturday's game. Game time is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. MT.
