The Colorado Rockies spent the entire summer before the Aug. 15 deadline milling around on which of their draft picks to sign. They ultimately settled a deal with first-round pick Tyler Anderson, a lefty out of Oregon. But the team didn't sign ninth-rounder RHP Ross Stripling out of Texas A&M or third-round catcher Peter O'Brien from Bethune-Cookman.
↵It's a puzzling move not to sign O'Brien, and now there's another twist in his story. O'Brien has not returned to Bethune-Cookman; rather, he has transferred to the Miami Hurricanes and looking for a transfer waiver to play this spring, reports Kendall Rogers of Perfect Game USA. He should supposedly have little problem getting the waiver, according to Rogers' Miami source, because there is a personal family matter involved.
↵There are enough questions about O'Brien's viability as a catcher, but his bat translates well, according to many scouting reports. This might turn into a non-signing the Rockies regret.
