Matt Holliday Had A Moth In His Ear--Yes, A Moth

Former Colorado Rockies and current St. Louis Cardinals outfielder Matt Holliday left Monday's game against the Los Angeles Dodgers with one out left to go in the top of the eighth. There was neither an ejection nor an injury.

He had a moth fly into his ear. And it got stuck in there. I mean, of all the things to happen, it was a little flying creature. He reportedly kept it after it was removed.

Jeff Sullivan over at Baseball Nation has a great rundown of the incident. Go ahead and check out "On The Matt Holliday Moth Incident." Maybe you'll be more receptive to face shields on helmets than Holliday is.

This incident surely ranks as one of the top two moments in Matt Holliday's career. The other event that vies for the top spot is Game No. 163, the play-in game while he was with the Rockies. Did he touch the plate? Yes or no, that's the more serious of the two situations.
