Nolan Arenado, Wilin Rosario Named Baseball America Midseason Top 50 Prospects

Playing in Sunday's 2011 MLB Futures Game, 3B Nolan Arenado and C Wilin Rosario will both represent the Colorado Rockies on the heels of being named to Baseball America's Midseason Top 50 Prospects List (scouting reports require subscription). Both made BA's Top 100 Prospects List before the start of the season, but they were not joined by their fellow Rockies prospect this time around.

Tyler Matzek had been the No. 32 prospect entering the season, but an inability to find the strike zone forced a demotion from Hi-A Modesto to Low-A Asheville, where the change of scenery did not help. Matzek has now taken a break from game action and is working with his personal pitching coach to sort things out.

As for the Rockies on this midseason list, Wilin Rosario jumped 21 spots from No. 49 to No. 28. His blurb informs us that his skill behind the plate and the power is his bat will make up for his low onbase percentage. Nolan Arenado made an even bigger jump, from No. 80 to No. 46. He has shown great defense at the hot corner, which people doubted, and he is hitting .309/.355/.487 with 21 doubles and 11 homers.

The Nationals Bryce Harper and the Angels' Mike Trout remain in the top two spots. However, Trout was just called up to the majors while Harper made his Double-A debut earlier this week.
