Colorado Rockies outfielder Carlos Gonzalez is not in the lineup for Monday's game in Atlanta after injuring his wrist during Sunday's game with the Kansas City Royals. As Gonzalez told reporters on Monday:
"I can't hold the bat right now. I can't swing. I want to play before break"
But he is available off the bench as a pinch-runner. While he will attempt to swing a bat on Tuesday, there is no timetable on his return yet.
For the time being, Ryan Spilborghs will play center field. To make up for the absence of Gonzalez, the team did call up OF Cole Garner on Monday afternoon. The long-time Rockies farmhand should see some sort of appearance during the final week of action before the All-Star Break.
Charlie Blackmon will assume leadoff duties for the team in the meantime. This has been a position manager Jim Tracy has hoped Blackmon could eventually assume. Is that time now, or will CarGo still hit in the lineup where he has had the most success this season when he returns?
