MLB All-Star Voting: Todd Helton Up For 'Final Vote'

The Colorado Rockies had just one player named to the National League roster for the 2011 MLB All-Star Game in Phoenix, Az., but there's still a chance we could see a second Rockie appear in the game. Todd Helton is up for the 'Final Vote,' which gives fans a choice of five players from each league to vote in as the final player for each roster.

In the National League, Todd Helton is in a group with Dodgers OF Andre Ethier, Diamondbacks P Ian Kennedy, Nationals LF Michael Morse and Phillies OF Shane Victorino. Ethier had a 30-game hitting streak earlier in the season; Ian Kennedy will look to be the first player from a host team to make it, having and 8-2 record and a 3.01 ERA; Morse is hitting a career-best .299 right now and tied his career-high of 15 homer midway through this season; and Victorino has the Phillies' machine behind him as well as a .299 BA, nine triples and nine home runs.

Todd Helton, meanwhile, played in his 2,000th career game, all with the Rockies. As well, he just tied Tony Gwynn for 25th all-time on the career doubles list with 543. His nine home runs this season has put him in a tie with Ron Santo at 85th all-time with 342.

As Rockies manager Jim Tracy recently told reports (via the Denver Post):

"I'm imploring to our Rockies nation to get busy, get online and punch that name 'Helton' as many times as you can possibly do it," Tracy said. "The contribution that this man has made to not only this city and this organization, but to the game in general, I think it's really important for this guy to get a legitimate opportunity to get to that game."

Get out the vote, everyone!
