2011 MLB Trade Rumors: Aaron Cook, Relievers Could Be Traded

While much of the trade rumors surrounding the Colorado Rockies surround pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez, the team could look to trade other players by the July 31 trade deadline. The Rockies could look to move starter Aaron Cook or some relief pitchers, Thomas Harding of Rockies.com reports.

Cook is no surprise, as that speculation has hounded him for months. Injury kept him out for the first two months of the season and he has struggled to establish himself in the back of the rotation. The Rockies have Greg Reynolds and Clayton Mortensen to take his spot in the rotation. And Esmil Rogers could return to the rotation in a few weeks, unless the team keeps him in the minors.

With the Rockies also falling out of the playoff race, closer Huston Street and relievers Rafael Betancourt and Matt Belisle could be moved. As Harding points out, all of them have at least one more year on their contracts and the former two have options for 2013.

For a season that began with such high hopes, trading assets is in a fall from contention is now what was expected.
