MLB Trade Rumors: Rockies Like Jesus Montero, But Not As Centerpiece For Ubaldo Jimenez

With just under two weeks to go until the July 31 MLB Trade Deadline, there are going to be a ton of rumors flying about on what teams would give up for the Colorado Rockies' Ubaldo Jimenez. Supposedly the New York Yankees have talked quite a bit with the Rockies, and reportedly the Rockies have revealed the four players they want in return for Jimenez: catcher Jesus Montero and pitcher Manny Banuelos, Dellin Betances and Ivan Nova. Nove has pitched in the majors this season as a replacement for Philip Hughes but has since returned to the minors.

Rockies general manager Dan O'Dowd has denied those rumors on the four players. Now, though, Sports Illustrated's Jon Heyman is reporting that:

says person w/ ties to rox: "montero will not be the centerpiece of (ubaldo) deal.'' theyll take him but not at best piece

This seems like this "person with ties to the Rockies" thinks a deal with the Yankees is all but preordained to happen. But what exactly is a "person with ties to the Rockies." Does that mean they are a team official, or is this a person who might do some consulting work for the team? We'll never know.
