(GIF) Heath Bell Slides To Mound During 2011 MLB All-Star Game

Colorado Rockies fans know San Diego closer Heath Bell quite well. But during the 2011 MLB All-Star Game there was a segment that showed Bell talking to some kids in the stands, giving them signed balls, his baseball cards and even a Yoda back pack. The kids probably didn't know who they were talking with at the time.

But it was Bell's entrance in the eighth inning that caused a stir and a number of guffaws. Bell came running in from the bullpen and when he hit the grass surrounding the pitcher's mound, well, take a look:

And he comes up just a bit short on actually making it to the mound. But couldn't you imagine the reaction to the slide if he had come up with an injured leg? Yes, it was roundly criticized on Twitter and other places, but it would have been worse if he came up limping.

As it stands, the Rockies and the rest of the National League West may only have the rest of the month to see him in a Padres uniform. He's a likely candidate to be traded at the deadline.
