Rockies Vs. Indians: Seth Smith Homers Twice In Colorado's 4-3 Win

Seth Smith continues to live up to his nickname of "Mr. Late Night." Tied at three in the top of the ninth, Seth Smith led off the inning against Chris Perez. Smith unloaded on a pitch, sending it high and deep to the right center field seats for his second home run (8) of the night, giving the Rockies a 4-3 lead.

Huston Street came in and easily recorded the first two outs of the inning. However, Cord Phelps put a ball into right field and wound up with a triple as Seth Smith had trouble securing his position in the outfield due to rainy and wet conditions. But with thunder and lightning all around him, Street got Austin Kearns to strike out with the tying- and go-ahead run in scoring position.

Earlier, Smith hit his seventh home run of the season in the sixth inning, which gave the Rockies a 3-0 lead. A Jonathan Herrera RBI single an inning earlier put the Rockies' first run on the board.

Jhoulys Chacin took a no-decision because Rafael Betancourt  and Matt Belisle allowed two runs (both charged to the former) in the eighth inning, but it was another solid start (mostly) for Chacin. He took a no-hitter into the sixth inning, but walked two and then allowed an RBI single to Shin-Shoo Choo to break it up. Chacin finished the night with 6.2 innings, one run allowed on two hits, six walks and seven strikeouts.

The Rockies (37-36, 18-17 away) continue this series on Wednesday night at 5:05 p.m. MT. Jason Hammel and Josh Tomlin are the scheduled starters.
