Padres Vs. Rockies: Jhoulys Chacin Takes Mound As Colorado Looks For Series Victory

After a closed-door meeting by the team on Tuesday afternoon, the Colorado Rockies came out Tuesday night and picked up a 6-3 victory over the San Diego Padres. Rookie Juan Nicasio fired off six innings and struck out nine for his second victory. Chris Iannetta capped the Rockies' offense with a three-run home run.

On Wednesday afternoon, the Rockies will put Jhoulys Chacin on the mound. He's done well in his two June starts. He started things off with a 2-1 victory over the San Francisco Giants on June 4 when he allowed one run on four hits in six innings. That run came on a home run to Cody Ross. He followed that up on June 10 with eight shutout innings and nine strikeouts. His 2.90 ERA leads all starts on the team and his 84 innings and 74 strikeouts lead the team. In his May 14 start, Chacin picked up a no-decision after allowing five runs in six-plus innings, the Rockies losing the game, 9-7.

Mat Latos made a May 15 start against the Rockies in Colorado, picking up his first win of the season. He pitched 5.2 innings, gave up two runs (one on a solo homer by Todd Helton), walked three and struck out five. He allowed four runs in his next start, but in three of his last four starts he's allowed two runs each time (one run the other start). Is he close to finding his 2010 form?
