Rockies' Ian Stewart Recalled From Colorado Springs

First reported by David Ramsey of the Colorado Springs Gazette, the Colorado Rockies have recalled third baseman Ian Stewart from Triple-A Colorado Springs. Though the move has not yet become official, Ty Wigginton could head to the disabled list for his oblique injury. Both Troy Renck and Tracy Ringolsby confirm this move as they both saw Stewart on the flight to Arizona.

The Rockies sent Ian Stewart down to the minors on April 19, following a rough start. He had just two hits in 26 at-bats (.077/.143/.077) and struck out 11 times. Needing regular at-bats (he suffered an injury early in Spring Training that kept him out for most of March), the Rockies thought it was best for him to work on things in the minors. He blistered the ball to the tune of .361/.500/.750 with three doubles, one triple, three home runs and 13 RBI.

With Jose Lopez the starter at third by default, Stewart's return could help shore up the position. Stewart hit 25 homers in 2009, but can he find that power again?
