Cardinals Vs. Rockies: Ubaldo Jimenez Falters, Colorado Drops Series Opener To St. Louis

For the Colorado Rockies, it was a new series but similar results following a 10-3 loss to the St. Louis Cardinals. Poor pitching combined with a lack of hitting did them in again.

Ubaldo Jimenez wasn't able to follow up his complete game two-hitter with similar results. Still winless at 0-5, Jimenez allowed six runs on 12 hits and two walks in six innings. An RBI triple by Colby Rasmus in the sixth inning broke the 3-3 tie. A Yadier Molina ground out and a wild pitch scored two more for the Cardinals that inning. Rasmus hit a second triple in the seventh inning, scoring two off of reliever Matt Daley.

Bruce Billings made his major league debut in the eighth inning and had a scoreless frame there. But in the top of the ninth, he allowed a single and a wild pitch to set up a Tyler Greene RBI single. Eric Young Jr. was recalled earlier in the day and went 1-for-4 playing center field and batting leadoff.

The Rockies scored their runs on a Ty Wigginton single and a Chris Iannetta double in the second inning and on a Carlos Gonzalez single in the third.

The Rockies (24-26, 12-14 home) continue this series Saturday night at 5:10 p.m. MT on FOX. Juan Nicasio makes his major league debut for the Rockies while Jaime Garcia opposes him.
