Pirates Vs. Rockies: Pittsburgh Shuts Out Colorado At Coors Field

In one of those rare occurrences, the Colorado Rockies were shutout at home in a 3-0 loss on Friday night to the Pittsburgh Pirates. The Rockies managed just five hits, while the Pirates hit two solo home runs as part of their offensive game.

Outside of the two solo homers and an RBI triple given up, Jhoulys Chacin (3-2) kept the game moving along. Before the seventh inning, he never went to more than four hitters in an inning. That was the inning he allowed Ronny Cedeno to triple in Pedro Alvarez (who reached on a single). In the third and sixth innings, Chacin gave up the homers to Andrew McCutchen and Garret Jones, respectively. He struck out eight batters.

Kevin Correia (3), Jose Veras (0), Chris Resop (1) and Joel Hanrahan (1) kept the Rockies to just five singles and struck out nine of them. Carlos Gonzalez had his first hit in 25 at-bats when he had a bunt single in the bottom of the ninth. Dexter Fowler struck out three times.

The series continues on Saturday evening (weather-permitting) at 6:10 p.m. MT. Paul Maholm and Jason Hammel start for the Pirates and the Rockies.
