Rockies Acquire Brad Emaus From Blue Jays

Before Friday's game with the Florida Marlins, the Colorado Rockies announced the acquisition of minor league infielder Brad Emaus from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for minor league pitcher Chris Malone.

Emaus had been a Rule 5 Draft selection by the New York Mets in December 2010 and started Opening Day at second base for them. However, he hit just .162 in 42 plate appearances. The Mets designated him for assignment, but no team was willing to claim him off waivers. As a Rule 5 pick he is required to stay on a major league roster for the entire year, no matter if he is claimed off waivers or traded. As a result, the Mets offered him back to the Blue Jays on April 21.

Just one day later, the Rockies acquired Emaus for minor league reliever RHP Chris Malone. Malone has pitched in the Rockies' system since 2008, but has repeated Double-A Tulsa in 2010. He has a 4.15 ERA and a 2.077 WHIP in four appearances.
