Jackie Robinson Day 2011

The Colorado Rockies will celebrate Jackie Robinson Day 2011 on April 15 with pregame ceremonies as well as with other in-game remembrances. Because the Rockies are at home they will have Jackie Robinson Day jeweled bases and lineup cards to go along with a Jackie Robinson tribute video that highlights the nine traits he exemplified.

Jackie Robinson's No. 42 remains the only jersey number to be retired league wide (since 1997), and all players, coaches and umpires will again wear No. 42 to honor Robinson. Yankees reliever Mariano Rivera is the only current player wearing No. 42 normally because he wore it before the number was retired.

After breaking the color barrier in Major League Baseball on April 15, 1947, Jackie Robinson went on to 10-year career with the Brooklyn Dodgers until the team moved to Los Angeles following the 1956 season. But Robinson's impact existed far beyond the baseball diamond and is honored through the nine values (PDF) he embodied.
