Last Wednesday, Colorado Rockies pitcher Ubaldo Jimenez was scheduled to pitch against the San Diego Padres, but an infected finger prevented him from taking his turn. After throwing a side session on Saturday, Jimenez is ready to pitch on Monday against the Los Angeles Dodgers. Ted Lilly will oppose him.
The Rockies beat the Cleveland Indians, 3-1, on Sunday, while the Dodgers lost to a split-squad Chicago Cubs team, 5-3. Twice the Dodgers blew the game, which led to an extra frame. However, Luis Vazquez served up a two-run home run in the bottom of the 10th to D.J. LeMahieu.
The Rockies' lineup for today (h/t Rockies twitter page):
CF Willy Taveras
SS Hernan Iribarren
LF Carlos Gonzalez
1B Ty Wigginton
2B Jose Lopez
RF Ryan Spilborghs
C Jose Morales
3B Hector Gomez
P Jimenez
Hernan Iribarren, who has played all over the field, has never played a game at shortstop in the minors or in brief major league appearances, but he did play a few innings there a couple of games ago. Wigginton, who will play all the corner infield and outfield positions and second base in the spring and during the season, hit a home run in yesterday's game.
First pitch is at 1:10 p.m. MT.
