The Colorado Rockies announced on Sunday afternoon that 14 players were reassigned to minor-league camp. The nine pitchers were Bruce Billings, Billy Buckner, Alan Johnson, Andrew Johnston, Adam Jorgenson, Casey Weathers, Christian Friedrich, Greg Smith and Keith Weiser. Billings and Weathers are both relievers who could see time with the Rockies later in the season. Christian Friedrich, a 2008 first-round draft pick, is a candidate to break into the majors this season, be it through injury on the big league staff or a dominating season after suffering injuries the last couple of seasons.
Catcher Wilin Rosario was also sent to minor-league camp. Rosario's 2010 season was cut short after July due to a knee injury, but all reports have him ready to resume catching soon. He may start the season in extended spring training, but a September call-up is likely in the cards. The other position players sent down were infielders Thomas Field and Hector Gomez and outfielder Cole Garner and Tim Wheeler.
Jordan Pacheco remains with the team as a legitimate roster contender, though how that all plays out may depend on Ian Stewart's ability to return before the end of March.
