Colorado Rockies, John Maine Sign Minor League Contract

The Colorado Rockies have signed a minor league contract with right handed pitcher John Maine on a minor league contract. Maine will now report to training camp at the new Talking Stick facilities in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Maine has been a member of the New York Mets pitching rotation for the past five seasons, but has suffered chronic injuries that has kept him from starting more than 15 games in three of the past five seasons. When healthy, Maine is a quality mid-rotation starter. In 2006, he threw 191 innings for New York with a 3.91 ERA and 180 strikeouts. He provides good depth and insurance against injury to one of the members of the Rockies’ current rotation.

His contract includes an opt-out clause if Maine is not on the major league roster by the end of training camp. He will be able to decide whether or not to accept a minor league position or become a free agent once again.
