Over two months after breaking his neck in an August baseball game, Juan Nicasio is back on the mound and throwing for the Colorado Rockies, reports Troy Renck of the Denver Post. Nicasio is working out down in Arizona:
"I saw him in Arizona (at the Rockies' spring training facility) working out in the weight room, running and pitching. He looked just like any other player getting ready for the season," [said Rockies GM Dan O'Dowd].
During the early stages of his recovery, doctors were uncertain if Nicasio would ever pitch again, but they never ruled it out. Now it appears that he could be ready to pitch at some point in 2012.
The Rockies could use Nicasio given the dearth of pitching the team has there. Rookies Drew Pomeranz and Alex White figure to be staples in the rotation and Jorge De La Rosa should return during the season from a torn UCL. Jhoulys Chacin is likely the anchor of the rotation at this point, but his second half performance left much to be desired.
