Rockies To Pay Old Lease At Hi Corbett Field

When the Colorado Rockies' pitchers and catchers report to spring training in a few weeks, they will be at a new facility: Salt River Fields at Talking Stick. Since 1993, the Rockies had spent every spring training at Hi Corbett Field in Tucson, holding a lease that runs through this 2011.

Though they will not play there this year, the Rockies will pay out the remainder of the lease. The Rockies informed by letter Tucson mayor Bob Walkup that they are committed to fulfilling the financial terms of the lease, already paying $40,000. About $200,000 remains.

The letter will be on the mayor's agenda next week. In it, Rockies owner Dick Monfort expressed gratitude for all the city of Tucson has done throughout the years and that the team understands the current financial health of the city.

The Colorado Rockies and the Arizona Diamondbacks will share the new facility that was made possible with the partnership of the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community.
