The Colorado Rockies and Carlos Gonzalez may have reached a contract extension--or may not have. It's hard to tell since these reports are emanating from Venezuela. Thomas Harding, MLB.com's beat writer for the Rockies, sheds some light on this by reporting that nothing can be confirmed at this point:
↵↵↵However, a club official reached on Friday said the Rockies can't confirm anything beyond the fact there has been an offer for some time. Also, the source said the club has no way of knowing if Gonzalez is coming to town.

In other words: nothing new at the moment. Sounds like when The Denver Channel attempted to report "breaking news" on Carmelo Anthony a few weeks ago.
↵Maybe these Venezuelan reports will turn out to be true. The Rockies have been quiet about all their major contract signings this offseason, so this wouldn't be too surprising. It would be a great cost-certainty move for the Rockies to make at this point.
↵But as Harding points out, there is no mention of agent Scott Boras in these reports. It's hard to believe Boras' name wouldn't come up as a big part of any newly-negotiated deal.
