Colorado Rockies Prospect Russell Wilson Dominates West Virginia On Gridiron; Is Baseball Diamond Next?

In last night's Champs Sports Bowl, the NC State Wolfpack defeated the No. 22 West Virginia Mountaineers, 23-7. There were moments of sloppy play throughout the game, but NC State quarterback Russell Wilson led his team to victory on the strength of 28-of-45 passing for 275 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed 14 times for 41 yards. Will this be his last game on the gridiron?

Wilson has a future with the Colorado Rockies, but could return to NC State for one more season of football. Wilson was drafted by the Rockies in fourth round of the 2010 draft. He played second base for the Tri-City Dust Devils for July before returning to NC State for fall football practice. While a .230/.336/.377 line is nothing to laud over, Wilson is definitely a player to watch going forward.

Named the MVP of the Champs Sports Bowl, Wilson said the following on his future after the game was over (via The News & Observer):

"I just can’t say when I’ll make a decision," Wilson said. "It’s something I need to think about. This is not about me tonight, and it shouldn’t be. This night is about N.C. State, all about N.C. State."

Wilson would likely play for the Low-A Asheville Tourists in 2011 with fellow ACC baseball and football star, Clemson Tigers quarterback Kyle Parker. Parker was the Rockies' first-round pick in 2010.
