After securing Gold Gloves at shortstop and in the outfield, Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez added Silver Slugger Awards on Thursday. Tulowitzki hit .315/.381/.568 with 27 home runs and 95 RBI. In the month of September he had a .322 batting average, an .800 slugging average and 40 RBI.
Carlos Gonzalez spent the month of September in a Triple Crown race with St. Louis' Albert Pujols and Cincinnati's Joey Votto. Ultimately, Gonzalez won the NL Batting Title with a .336 average, but his 34 homers were good for fourth and his 117 RBI came in second. Overall, Gonzalez hit .336/.376/.598 with 351 total bases. His 197 hits led the National League and were the third highest in all of major league baseball.
These are the first Silver Slugger Awards for the two Rockies.
